a Taste of the Past
Welcome to the 'Prieuré de Conques',
it was back in 648 that Saint Remacle,
the bishop of Maastricht, ordered the buiding
of a monastery in Conques on the land of the Count of Chiny.
In 1173, the Priory was given as a gift to the Cistercian monks
of Orval, who transformed it into a place of study and convalescence.
And there is no denying that still today, in the shade
of the four hundred year old lime tree of the Priory and cradled by
the ripples of the meandering river Semois, the outside world seems
to have come to a halt...
The De Naeyer family and its team at the Prieuré
wish you a pleasant visit to our website
and look forward one day to introducing you
to the charms of this divine location.
